Each month our River Eves’ parents spend hundreds of collective hours volunteering at school and from home to plan and implement the PTA’s programs and events. Because our volunteers are so integral to our students and our school, we want to recognize one superstar volunteer each month.
The November Volunteer of the Month is…
Crystal Tanagho
Crystal is one of our most valued volunteers. She brings her great work ethic and positive attitude to every position she takes on. She has served and/or chaired many PTA committees as well as helping out in her children’s classrooms. Most recently, she has done a phenomenal job as Chair of the Fun Run for the past 3 years. The Fun Run is super important as it makes up over 50% of the PTA budget, ensuring that all of our programs are funded and can continue in the future. Planning for the Fun Run begins in the summer and doesn’t end until the last collections in November. Crystal spends hours and hours of her time promoting, distributing prizes, and processing pledges. And for the last three years, River Eves has surpassed our Fun Run goal, which is an amazing accomplishment!
PTA recently interviewed Crystal, here’s what she had to say…
Tell us about yourself…
Originally from Ohio, (Reef & I both went to Ohio State) and moved down here in 2000. Thought we would be in ATL for a few years and then move back to OH, but we fell in love with GA and haven’t gone back. I’ve worked in the commercial title insurance industry for 20 years, but scaled back to part time in 2012 (and now just a few hours each week). Have 2 boys, Chris is 11 yrs old and in 6th grade. Jackson is 8 yrs old and in 3rd grade.
What brought your family to River Eves Elementary?
We moved from Buckhead to HSB in 2004 and were fortunate that RE would be our elementary school.
Tell us about the various roles/committees you have volunteered for at the school?
My first volunteer opportunity was with the Tanner Photography chair, which I’ve been doing the past 6 years. I’ve also served as chair for the Directory, Hospitality, Fun Run for 3 year, PTA President. I’ve also been room mom, and have helped out as the book publishing parent for the boys homerooms, and worked on the end of year parties, including Chris’ 5th grade dance 🙂
Why do you volunteer your time and resources to the school?
I love being able to lend a helping hand and spend time with my kids. I’ve especially enjoyed the opportunity to get to know and work closely with the staff at RE, as well as my children’s class mates.
