November Volunteer of the Month…Crystal Tanagho

image

Each month our River Eves’ parents spend hundreds of collective hours volunteering at school and from home to plan and implement the PTA’s programs and events. Because our volunteers are so integral to our students and our school, we want to recognize one superstar volunteer each month.

The November Volunteer of the Month is…

Crystal Tanagho

Crystal is one of our most valued volunteers. She brings her great work ethic and positive attitude to every position she takes on. She has served and/or chaired many PTA committees as well as helping out in her children’s classrooms. Most recently, she has done a phenomenal job as Chair of the Fun Run for the past 3 years. The Fun Run is super important as it makes up over 50% of the PTA budget, ensuring that all of our programs are funded and can continue in the future. Planning for the Fun Run begins in the summer and doesn’t end until the last collections in November. Crystal spends hours and hours of her time promoting, distributing prizes, and processing pledges. And for the last three years, River Eves has surpassed our Fun Run goal, which is an amazing accomplishment!

PTA recently interviewed Crystal, here’s what she had to say…

Tell us about yourself…

Originally from Ohio, (Reef & I both went to Ohio State) and moved down here in 2000. Thought we would be in ATL for a few years and then move back to OH, but we fell in love with GA and haven’t gone back. I’ve worked in the commercial title insurance industry for 20 years, but scaled back to part time in 2012 (and now just a few hours each week). Have 2 boys, Chris is 11 yrs old and in 6th grade. Jackson is 8 yrs old and in 3rd grade.

What brought your family to River Eves Elementary?

We moved from Buckhead to HSB in 2004 and were fortunate that RE would be our elementary school.

Tell us about the various roles/committees you have volunteered for at the school?

My first volunteer opportunity was with the Tanner Photography chair, which I’ve been doing the past 6 years. I’ve also served as chair for the Directory, Hospitality, Fun Run for 3 year, PTA President. I’ve also been room mom, and have helped out as the book publishing parent for the boys homerooms, and worked on the end of year parties, including Chris’ 5th grade dance 🙂

Why do you volunteer your time and resources to the school?

I love being able to lend a helping hand and spend time with my kids. I’ve especially enjoyed the opportunity to get to know and work closely with the staff at RE, as well as my children’s class mates.

Winter Party Donation

image

Parents-

https://riverevespta.com/product/winter-party-donation/

The holidays are right around the corner, and our children are gettinmg excited for their annual class winter parties. This year, River Eves staff and PTA are trying something new. In an effort to make every experience consistent for the students across all classrooms, we are streamlining the Winter & End of the Year parties. The Party Planning committee has been busy planning the Winter parties with the direction of the Teachers for Kindergarten through 5th grades.
The themes are as follows:
K –   Gingerbread
1st – Frosty First Grade

2nd – Snowball Fight
3rd – PJ’s & Pancakes

4th – Polar Pokelympics

5th – Ugly Sweaters at the Ski Lodge

PTA is forming a Party Decorating committee and a Party Food committee. The Decorating committee will be responsible for preparing the activities, games and crafts for each grade level. The Food committee will arrange for the snacks & treats. If you enjoy crafting, decorating or baking, please join one or both of our committees by emailing REESvolunteers@gmail.com in order to be added to the prep party Evites and discussions. Participating on a holiday party committee is a great way to meet other parents and to enjoy getting involved in PTA.

PTA will be posting sign ups for Party volunteers on the PTA Volunteer Corner in the coming weeks. Reminders will come out in the weekly PTA e-News email, but please be on the lookout for these fun volunteer opportunities.
And finally, but most importantly, to make our student parties a success, we ask you make a small contribution for each of your students that attends REES. The monetary contribution is 100% voluntary, and your students will participate in their grade level party regardless of contributions, but every bit helps us make the parties that much more fun for our children. Monies received will go towards craft materials, food, game materials, paper products and utensils plus winter decor.
Contributions can be cash or check (payable to River Eves PTA) sent in an envelope with your student or you can contribute using your credit card on the River Eves PTA website link:

https://riverevespta.com/product/winter-party-donation/

The recommended contribution is $1-$5 per student. Please send in your contribution by 12/2/16.

Thank you,
