**The Annual Book Swap at River Eves!!**
For the River Eves Annual Book Swap, we are encouraging every child to bring in at least 2 gently used books to swap with others. Here’s how it works:
• For every 2 books brought in, students will get to choose 1 book from the titles their grade level has donated. River Eves Staff may select some books for instructional purposes.
• We request that the books be gently used (slightly worn, bent pages) and still have a cover and be intact (no pages falling out). Any reading level is acceptable. (No coloring books, workbooks, or instructional manuals, please.)
• For Grades 2-5: Students will bring in their books on the dates listed below for their grade. Volunteers and HR Teachers will be collecting the books and handing out “book bucks”. We will record their name, the number of books received, and give them a Book Buck coupon.
• For Grades K-1: Students may bring in their books any day that week. Each day, we will have volunteers and Teachers work together to collect books during the homeroom period. We will record their names and give them book buck coupons also.
• On the day of the swap, students will bring their Book Buck to lunch with them where they may pick out their “new” book(s) after they eat lunch. Volunteers will be available to help students select their books.
• The Media Center and all other classroom teachers are invited to choose books for their classrooms after the children finish swapping on Friday afternoon.
• No books donated will be returned; remaining books will be donated to the school and/or our local East Roswell Library.

**Thanks in advance for making this a successful event for everyone!!**
Each month our River Eves’ parents spend hundreds of collective hours volunteering at school and from home to plan and implement the PTA’s programs and events. Because our volunteers are so integral to our students and our school, we want to recognize one superstar volunteer each month.
The December Volunteer of the Month is…
Tony is such an asset to River Eves in so many ways. His smiling face and infectious laugh brighten the halls of River Eves almost daily. His can-do attitude and service-minded character benefits every River Eves PTA program he’s involved with.
He is always ready to help in any way he’s needed and is a regular fixture at all school events. You’ve seen him helping announce at Bingo Night, providing Coca-Cola products at PTA events, running the water station at the Fun Run, helping corral the kids during Eagle Flyers, helping out in his children’s classrooms, etc.
He also advocates for education by serving on the School Governance Council as VP, Superintendent Community Council, Northeast Learning Committee of Parents University, as well as attending PTA Board meetings.
Over the years, Tony has given hours and hours of his time in service to River Eves Elementary and the community, as well as being an integral member of the River Eves PTA.
PTA recently interviewed Tony, here’s what he had to say…
Tell us about yourself ..
I was born on the west side of Chicago. I graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in science. I spent 30 years in Corporate America with Frito-Lay, Inc. and Proctor & Gamble. I have been married to Dawn for 22.5 years and have 3 boys, Avery (38), Kendall (13), and Kristopher (10) and 2 grandchildren Kaiden (4) and Kayla (5 months).
What brought your family to River Eves Elementary?
We moved here from Chicago as a result of my wife’s promotion with Coca-Cola Refreshments.
How did you begin volunteering at River Eves?
I started by attending a PTA board meeting and asked how could I support and the rest is history.
Tell us about the various roles/committees you have volunteered for at the school?
PTA, VP of School Governance Council, Eagle flyers, STEM, mentor in the classroom, Superintendent community Council, Northeast Learning committee of Parents University, and I support most of the school and PTA sponsored events (i.e. Bosterthon, fall festival, end of year parties, bingo nights, etc).
Why do you volunteer your time and resources to the school?
I think it is important that I model the values we are teaching our kids. Education is extremely important and it takes both involved parents and dedicated teachers to provide our children a quality education and lastly, Service is one of my families core values.
What do you like to do with your free time?
I like to play golf, spend time with the family, coach my kids activities, and I am an active member of Eagles Nest Church and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
The Annual Book Swap is coming up January 23-27th! Please check your bookshelves and pull out any gently used books(covers and pages still intact, please) to donate.
Please send the books in with your students next Monday-Wednesday (23rd-25th)
For every 2 books donated, your student will receive 1 book buck that will allow them to choose a book from the titles donated by their grade level.
Volunteers will be needed throughout the week of the swap.
Book Publishing is Coming in January!
Parents of K-2nd graders,
The River Eves PTA Book Publishing Project will begin in January! All K-2nd graders will create, write and illustrate their own hard cover books! The PTA hopes to encourage your child’s creativity with this enriching project again this year. The books are sure to be memorable keepsakes for both the students and parents. The first step in the project is to work on the author profile survey with your child over winter break. When they return to school in January, they will begin writing their book at school.
We are seeking grade level volunteers for this project. A majority of the volunteer work can be done from home and will take place from late February to mid-March. You only need access to a computer and a printer. Please consider signing up to volunteer by visiting the riverevespta.com volunteer corner.
